Deforestation commodities

Global demand for farming commodities - such as soy, palm oil, wood products and wood derivatives and beef - is one of the main causes of pressure on forests.

Global demand for farming commodities - such as soy, palm oil, wood products and wood derivatives and beef - is one of the main causes of pressure on forests.

In order to assess the Jerónimo Martins Group's exposure to these commodities, a map of the presence of these ingredients in the Private Brand and Perishables products sold in 2014 in Portugal, Poland and Colombia was drawn in 2015.

Additionally, the Group's suppliers, for which these ingredients have been identified, have been questioned on the existence of certification and the origin of these products. The results are disclosed in the Group's annual response to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Forests. For further details on the actions of the Group in this area, see www.cdp.net.

The Group aims to progressively guarantee the sustainable origin of these raw materials in line with the commitment made within its participation in The Consumer Goods Forum.

In September 2015, Jeronimo Martins Polska became a member of GreenPalm, an organisation which ensures, along with the certifying body Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), that the equivalent volume of palm oil used by the producer in the development of a reference is acquired from sustainably managed sources. In 2016, all the soaps in the Linda range were re-released in Poland with the GreenPalm designation.
